Iraq (pronounced /ɪˈræk/ or /ɪˈrɑːk/, Arabic: العراق Al-Irāq), officially the Republic of Iraq (Arabic: جمهورية العراق (help·info) Jumhūrīyat Al-Irāq, Kurdish: كماری عراق, Komara Êraqê, Assyrian: ܥܝܪܐܩ) is a country in Western Asia spanning most of the northwestern end of the Zagros mountain range, the eastern part of the Syrian Desert and the northern part of the Arabian Desert. Iraq shares borders with Jordan to the west, Syria to the northwest, Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, and Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to the south. Iraq has a narrow section of coastline measuring 58 km (35 miles) on the northern Persian Gulf. The capital city, Baghdad (Arabic: بغداد Baġdād), is in the center-west of the country. Two major rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, run through the centre of Iraq, flowing from north to south. These provide Iraq with agriculturally capable land and contrast with the steppe and desert landscape that covers most of Western Asia. Historically, Iraq was known in Europe by the Greek eponym 'Mesopotamia' (Land between the rivers); after the foundation of the Kingdom of Iraq in 1932, it became known by its ancient endonym 'Iraq'. Iraq has been home to continuous successive civilizations since the 6th millennium BC. The region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers is identified as the cradle of civilization and the birthplace of writing and the wheel. Throughout its long history, Iraq has been the center of the Akkadian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Hellenistic, Parthian, Sassanid and Abbasid empires, and part of the Achaemenid, Roman, Rashidun, Umayyad, Mongol, Ottoman and British empires. Beginning with the invasion in 2003, a multinational coalition of forces, mainly American and British, occupied Iraq. The occupation ended when sovereignty was transferred to the Iraqi Interim Government June 2004. A new Constitution of Iraq has since been approved by referendum and a new Government of Iraq has been elected. Some dispute whether Iraq is de facto sovereign (see Iraqi sovereignty, United States-Iraq relations). From Wikipedia under the

Just be very respectful when asking questions, dont make stuff up, dont make any sudden or quick movments, loud noises, try to just get to know them first and then get into asking them questions, you probably can get great storys from them just by getting to know them. HOOAH Answered by mojo09226 - Thu Jun 22 08:12:41 2006 What companies will benefit from the latest deals selling weapons to Iraq and Afghanistan? Q. Saw a news story today, 9/14/08, about the Defense Department selling Billions of dollars of weapons to Iraq. This of course seems shady since we sold weapons to Iraq in the early 80's and then went in and destroyed them and also sold weapons to the Taliban a decade ago and then went in and destroyed them. Can anyone tell me specifically what American companies are benefiting from this? I see that many of the airplanes are from Lockheed Martin. Q. I know there could be several variabled involved, but in short, my friend is asking her stepdad to send a cord from a camera here to Washington state. He's stationed in iraq, and i just wanted to get a rough idea of how long its going to take to get here. I wanted to ask my friend, but i really didn't want to be rude about it considering its a touchy subject for her. Asked by evie a - Mon May 12 21:54:04 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Am I right in assuming he's in the military? If so, that changes everything. I just got done sending packages almost every other week, for 7 months, to a friend in Baghdad, My packes got to him in anywhere between 7-14 days depending on the season. Now, stuff coming from him seemed to take a lot longer, sometimes on the order of 3+ weeks even for a letter. When I was in Kuwait, the stuff I sent home to the states got back in two weeks or less. I think its going to matter exactly where in Iraq he is. Also, I was mailing home to the east coast-friends in Kuwait who lived on the west coast said it took them about an extra week to get stuff there than it would to send to east coast.
