Iraq (pronounced /iːˈrɑːk/ or /ɪˈræk/, Arabic: العراق Al-Irāq), officially the Republic of Iraq (Arabic: جمهورية العراق (help·info) Jumhūrīyat Al-Irāq, Kurdish: كؤماری عێراق, Komara Îraqê) is a country in Western Asia spanning most of the northwestern end of the Zagros mountain range, the eastern part of the Syrian Desert and the northern part of the Arabian Desert. Iraq is bordered by Jordan to the west, Syria to the northwest, Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, and Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to the south. Iraq has a narrow section of coastline measuring 58 km (35 miles) on the northern Persian Gulf. The capital city, Baghdad is in the center-east of the country. Two major rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, run through the center of Iraq, flowing from northwest to southeast. These provide Iraq with agriculturally capable land and contrast with the steppe and desert landscape that covers most of Western Asia. Historically, the territory comprising Iraq was known in Europe by the Greek toponym 'Mesopotamia' (Land between the rivers). Iraq has been home to continuous successive civilizations since the 6th millennium BC. The region between the Tigris and Euphrates r is identified as the cradle of civilization and the birthplace of writing and the wheel. Throughout its long history, Iraq has been the center of the Akkadian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Hellenistic, Parthian, Sassanid and Abbasid empires, and part of the Achaemenid, Roman, Rashidun, Umayyad, Mongol, Safavid, Afsharid, Ottoman and British empires. The Kingdom of Iraq was founded in 1932. Beginning with an invasion in 2003, Iraq came under military occupation by a multinational coalition of forces, ostensibly American and British. Sovereignty was transferred to the Iraqi Interim Government in June 2004. A new constitution was then approved by referendum and a new Government of Iraq was elected. As of September 2010, 50,000 US troops remain in the country. The full withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq is mandated by 31 December 2011. From Wikipedia under the

I want to send a care package to a friend but do not know what he really need. Asked by Sexytrini - Wed Apr 15 10:49:59 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. It might take some time depending on where you're friend is stationed. If he/she is on a big base, they will usually get it within a months time. Most bases in Iraq have a PX where soldiers/Marines/sailors/ airmen can purchase almost anything. DVD, PS3, XBOX, etc. etc. I think it's the thought that counts and not what's inside the care package. Thanks for supporting our troops in Iraq. Answered by Kaz H - Wed Apr 15 10:57:02 2009 How about instead of invading Iraq we invest one percent of that money into Olympic Sports? Q. The returns from investing that way will be more world peace. Our economy and world image would increase too. My brother is in the army and even I know the Iraq war was a complete waste. The Republicans have some good ideas but the Iraq War is such a big mistake they will never be able to pay it back to this country. Answered by saintmayor - Wed Aug 13 11:34:38 2008 Does the cost of the Iraq occupation causes a fragile economy?
Q. Barack Obama has linked the effects of the cost of the occupation of Iraq to fragility in the economy. Do you agree with him? Other sources estimate that the cost of the attack and occupation of Iraq will run to $3 trillion. This does not include other defense spending. Asked by James Star - Sat Mar 22 13:41:09 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Most wars, in the modern economy (after WW2 and the advent of modern economic theory), do NOT benefit either the countries engaged in the warfare. It is - of course - a loss - loss of otherwise possibly productive workers - killed or disabled - loss of revenue - taxed or deficit spent dollars essentially wasted equity for every dollar spend above and beyond the minimum necessary to guarantee the safety of the marketplace and the state. So in very real terms the benefactors are the industrial suppliers & corporations , who themselves have extremely top-heavy arrangements in terms of employee wealth distribution, so tax dollars go to these wealthiest of the contractors or corporate executives and increasingly less goes to actually defend… [cont.] Answered by Mark T - Sat Mar 22 14:55:42 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Iraq" IraqFrom Wikiquote Jump to: navigation, search IraqIraq is a country on the continent of Asia and in the Middle East.
